Why is this an innovative design?
• This Fall back tray of SCA Packaging is a Shelf Ready packaging with a back panel that automatically rotates backwards by the weight of the product. This results in an optimal product presentation and avoids the products falling forward, e.g. when the packaging is half empty.
• Current solution have either an fixed inclined back with a disadvantage of loosing space on a pallet or have a flexible back panel that requires a handling at the point of sales to induce this inclination. The Fall back tray overcomes these disadvantages.
• The design is mono-material: the hinge is constructed out of the material of the tray and the glue points, and does not require an extra part nor extra handling.
A short description of this packaging innovation.
Material usage:
• SCA's Fall back is a 100% natural packaging made of 2 mm thick corrugated board (E-flute)
• There is no extra material needed to create the hinge function.
Application:
• Shelf Ready packaging for vertical products with a small base, that have a risk to fall forward.
• A manual , fast and easy to erect packaging solution.
• Increased visibility of products on the lower shelves, due to the inclination feature. 
Processing
Manual erectable, 4-punts pre glued tray. The handling to fill this tray is identical of that of a standard 4-point glued tray (fefco 0451)
• Pull the Fall back tray open. The hinge is automaically created.
• Fill with product
• Pu thte tray in a transport case (fefco 0201)
• Put on pallet
Point of sales
At the retailer, brand and product visibility is key to ensure sales. Product as tablets loose a big part of brand recognition if they are stacked horizontal. If you present them upright, they might fall forward adn loose their selling power as well.
Due to the hinged back wall of the Fall back tray, the products lay backward and do not fall over. An additional advantage is that they also get more light and have increased visibility.
Usage and convenience
Shelf ready packaging with no extra handling at the packer and at the point of sales.
• For the packer, the handling is identical as with a conventional pack: when the tray is opened,a part of the back wall is broken and this creates the hinge. • When the tray is put in the shelf at the retailer, the back panel moves automatically backwards due to the weight of the tray. This requires no extra handling as well.
Environment
•This packaging is a 100% recyclable packaging and is for 70% made of recycled materials.
•With this unique concept, there is optimum usage of pallet space. A tray with a fixed inclined wall would have only 79% of the current pallet load.
•There is a minimum of packaging material: compared to the standard handerect tray (fefco 422) as initially requested by the customer, we save 42% of material.
Design
The high back panel gives support to the product. The front can be kept low, so the product has a good visibility. High side panels ensure product stability, but allow maximal visibility on the sides.
Information and print
Fall back has in this version a minimum of print. All additional information is on the product itself. By changing the colour, the tray can be used of a wide product range.
